Blender Hotkeys

  1. Important Modes:

    • Object Mode: For manipulating entire objects
    • Edit Mode: For modifying individual vertices, edges, or faces
    • Sculpt Mode: For organic modeling and detailing
  2. Key Shortcuts:

    • Tab: Switch between Object and Edit modes
    • G: Move (Grab) selected element
    • R: Rotate selected element
    • S: Scale selected element
    • E: Extrude (in Edit mode)
    • Ctrl + R: Add a loop cut (in Edit mode)
    • X: Delete selected element
    • A: Select all / deselect all
    • B: Box select
    • C: Circle select
    • Shift + D: Duplicate
    • Ctrl + Z: Undo
  3. Viewport Navigation:

    • Middle Mouse Button: Orbit view
    • Shift + Middle Mouse Button: Pan view
    • Scroll Wheel: Zoom in/out
    • Numpad 1, 3, 7: Front, right, top views
    • Numpad 5: Toggle perspective/orthographic view
  4. Modeling Workflow: a. Start with a basic shape (cube, sphere, etc.) in Object Mode b. Enter Edit Mode (Tab) to modify the shape c. Use extrude (E), loop cuts (Ctrl + R), and other tools to add detail d. Use modifiers like Subdivision Surface for smoother results

  5. Advice for 3D Modeling:

    • Begin with simple shapes and gradually add complexity
    • Use reference images for accuracy (Shift + A > Image > Reference)
    • Utilize the Mirror modifier for symmetrical models
    • Keep your topology (the flow of edges and faces) clean and quad-based
    • Use Subdivision Surface modifier for smoother models, but be mindful of edge loops for proper shaping
  6. Useful Tools:

    • Boolean operations for combining or cutting shapes
    • Knife tool (K) for custom edge creation
    • Proportional editing (O) for smooth, organic deformations
  7. Organizing Your Scene:

    • Use collections to group related objects
    • Name your objects descriptively
